About School Catchments

School catchment areas ensure that each school has the capacity to accommodate the anticipated enrolment of students in its catchment area. School catchment areas have been determined after due consideration of all relevant factors, including the accommodation available in the schools, the accessibility of the schools to the students, and the safety of students going to and from school.

Refer to the School Locator and enter your residence to determine your school catchment area.

Disclaimer: Please note that in the occasional situation where there is a discrepancy between the map and the School Locator, the School Locator will be used.

Elementary Schools by High School Catchment

The North Vancouver School District embraces a Family of Schools (FOS) model. Each secondary school is considered a “family” with its surrounding feeder elementary schools. The purpose of this model is to build and maintain positive community within secondary school neighbourhoods, enhance staff collaboration, and optimize student supports.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my school catchment?

You can find your designated school catchment by using your local school district’s online catchment map or school locator tool. Simply enter your home address to see which elementary, middle, and secondary schools are assigned to your area. If you’re unsure, you can also contact the school district directly for confirmation.

Can my child attend outside our catchment?

In many cases, yes—this is often called a “cross-boundary” or “out-of-catchment” request. However, approval is not guaranteed and usually depends on available space, school capacity, and district policies. Priority is almost always given to students who live within the catchment.

Is school registration first come, first served?

Not exactly. Students living within a school’s catchment typically receive priority placement. While early registration is encouraged—especially in high-demand areas—it’s not purely first come, first served. Factors like residency, sibling attendance, and program availability may also be considered.

Do catchment boundaries change?

Yes, catchment boundaries can change over time. School districts may adjust them due to population growth, new school developments, or to balance enrollment across schools. These changes don’t happen frequently, but it’s important to verify catchment information if you’re planning a move.

Can buying a home guarantee placement?

No, purchasing a home within a catchment does not always guarantee placement at that school. While living in the catchment gives your child priority, enrollment may still be limited by capacity. It’s always best to confirm with the school district and register as early as possible.
